The most valuable part of Spiš castle is its top - the oldest part of the castle. Access to the upper castle allows Romanesque gate surrounded by thick walls from the last reconstruction in the 18th century. Nearby is located the castle tank carved into the rock. On the other side of the top of the castle are situated residential buildings with preserved Renaissance and Gothic windows.

The observation deck offers fantastic panoramas of the countryside. Spiš Castle rises above the surrounding land up to 200 meters. Amid this space is located so-called donjon - residential tower of the 13th century.

At the entrance to the castle from the south is places sophisticated fortification gateway. Detached stone columns were previously connected by wooden poles which formed the first line of defense of the castle. If the enemy managed to break through this line, deep moat was waiting for him and a high stone wall as well.

There is as well tower with a Gothic gate of 15 century situated here. It was entered through the drawbridge with a pit. Access was obstructed by a strong grid as well. Amidst the courtyard stood a large house. Around the perimeter were placed the quarters of the castle crew and at the back were situated barns.
