Dobšinská Ice Cave is one of the most popular caves of the world and it is located in the southwestern part of the Slovak Paradise National Park near Řožňava.

The entrance is located on the northern slope of the hill called Duca at an altitude of 969 m, 130 m above the valley of Hnilec. You can reach this place by bus or train. Ascent from the parking place to the entrance of the cave takes about 25 minutes.

The importance and beauty of the cave is confirmed by the fact that since year 2000 it has been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. This cave is part of a cave system Stratená and reaches a length of 1,483 meters and a width of 112 m.

Its main part is a hollow falling from the entrance 70 meters deep. Ice sometimes reaches up to the ceiling, which formed each of the main parts of the cave. Ice occurs here in the form of ground ice, waterfalls, ice stalagmites and columns.

Interestingly, the ice thickness reaches slightly to 26 meters, although Dobšinská Ice Cave is located outside the alpine zone 900 m high. It is also a major winter shelter for unique species of bats.

Ice Caves are one of the most beautiful creations, which you can visit in Slovakia during your trip in this country.
