St. Martin's cathedral is one of the most famous buildings in Bratislava. It became famous as a particular church, where the coronation of kings took place. The history of this church dates back to 1221 when a Romanesque basilica construction started. Later in the 16th century, the church was completed as a Gothic cathedral with three naves. Later four chapels were built. St. Martin's Cathedral was part of the city fortifications.

Baroque interiors of St. Martin's cathedral deliver clean lines. There is a statue of the patron church made of lead. The work was created by sculptor Georg Donner. This important Baroque artist also decorated the chapel of St. John the Merciful. St. Martin's cathedral is best known for coronations, which is symbolized by a copy of St. Stephan's crown positioned at 85-meter high church tower. There were crowned 11 Hungarian kings and 8 royal wives in this church. Their list is on the board placed in the church interior. The tower of the cathedral is an excellent view point to watch the city, but it is not accessible for tourists.
