Orava water reservoir is also known as Orava sea and on its southern and southeastern shore are located famoous summer holiday resorts for recreation and sport - Slanická Osada and Prístav.

Orava Reservoir was created by damming river Orava - one of the cleanest rivers in Slovakia. Located in the north of Slovakia, in Orava region extennding to the Polish border.

Today Orava Reservoir belongs to popular holiday resorts in Slovakia. Every year thousands of visitors visit here mainly from Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic. Neighbourhood of Orava dam offers a wide range of accommodation (hotels, cottages and camping), shops and sports equipment rentals. If you are a fan of camping, it is possible to stay in camping places Stará Hora and Slanická Osada. Restaurants and cafeterias are available as well.

Summer tourist season starts here in mid-June and ends in September. Orava Reservoir is the ideal place for an active holiday, especially for water sport fans such as water skiing, scuba diving, windsurfing, sailing and others. Nice attraction is a cruise ship.

Orava Reservoir is also a popular place for fishermen - it is possible to catch perch, carp , pike and salmon. Surrounding of the reservoir is suitable for hiking and cycling.

In winter, Orava dam is popular among skaters and lovers of classic skiing. Interestingly, the Orava Reservoir is one of the most important habitats for water birds in Slovakia.

The largest settlement on the shore of the lake is the city Námestovo.

The attractions include the fact that from the flooded villages remained afloat only a hill above the village Slanica, which today builds a small island. Therefore it is called Slanický ostrov island or as well Island of art. A church from 18 century stands on it, in which the exhibition of Slovak folk sculpture is located. There is a church stonework exposition located near the church. The island is connected to the shore with regular boat line.
