Liptovská Mara is one of the largest dams in Slovakia. It is a popular holiday destination. The main vacation center is located in the village of Liptovský Trnovec. Popular object of Liptovská Mara dam is beautifil church belfry of the same-named village that was flooded. The bell tower is located near the Museum Havránok, presenting settlement of Liptov by Celts.

Liptovská Mara also known as The Liptov Sea os one of the most famous sites of spending holidays in Slovakia. Liptovská Mara offers very good fishing opportunities. The main attractions include a scenic cruise on the ship, which has a capacity of 50 seats.

During the summer this reservoir offers excellent opportunities for water sports, swimming, rowing, surfing, jet-ski, pedal boats etc.

It is an interesting fact that Liptovská Mara was named after the extinct village Liptovská Mara. The said village was flooded during dam construction. In the village was preserved Gothic church, which is located within Havránok area, while its most valuable architectural and artistic parts were transferred to the Museum of Liptov village in Pribylina.

The next targets of holiday trips in this area include Ratkovie island, which is well known dendrological and ornithological location and there is situalted as well an arboretum here - botanical garden specialized in the area of research and plants cultivation - with an information trail included.
