Slovakia is one of the youngest countries in Europe. Country in wild transition from socialism to capitalism. Until the twentieth century it has never been an independent state, but always part of larger units. On Slovak territory have been alway spread and mixed different ethnic, cultural and religious influences, which the country owes its present diversity. Under the patronage of medieval castles grew side by side unique Romanesque rotundas, great mansions, modest wooden houses, and wooden Gothic churches.

Variety of preserved folk architecture is connected with the diversity of nature. Thanks to its location on the border of two contrasting natural units - Pannonian Plain and Carpathian Mountains can be a relatively small space to browse several types of natural and cultural landscapes. In terms of biodiversity Slovakia is one of the richest countries in Europe.
