Protected landscape area Poľana is admittedly obscure, but very attractive volcanic mountains in terms of vacation and relax. Poľana is located in the heart of Slovakia, near the cities of Banská Bystrica and Detva. There also lies the geographical center of the country here called Hrb.

Poľana is a Tertiary volcano, which volcanic features are fairly well preserved. The highest peak is 1367 m high Poľana. There's located hotel of the same name over here. Other significant peaks include Predná Polana, Bukovina and Vepor.

Among the most interesting natural attractions are Hrochotská dolina with Bátov rock and Jánošíks rock with Abčiná cave or rock formations such as Kalamárka (popular climbing area), Vrchdetva and Melichova rock.

In the valley of Bystrý stream is located Bystré waterfall. Main starting points for hiking are Detva - a city known for traditional Slovak folklore and Slovenská Ľupča.

During the winter holiday season is available to visitors Poľana ski resort. Poľana is covered by mixed forests alternating with meadows, with breathtaking views. Very rich is as well local fauna and flora. Poľana is listed as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
