Novohradské Museum in Lučenec was established in 1955 as a Regional Museum in Halič. During 1967 - 1985 period it was known in Fiľakovo as Novohradské Museum.
Since 1985 based in Lučenec in the historic building of the former county court in the historical center of the city.
The institution was founded by the Banská Bystrica Region and manages more than 30,000 archaeological, ethnological, historical and gallery collection items. The collections include extraordinary valuable items of folk pottery, enamel and historic glass documenting dominant industries in Novohrad.
Gallery collections present work of artists working in Lučenec and its surroundings.
It regularly organizes international competition called Triennial of watercolor (since 1983), International Ceramic Symposium (since 1989).
Novohradské Museum in Lučenec has a rich collection of contemporary ceramics, which is presented by a permanent exhibition.
