Slovak National Literary Museum in Martin is a central coordination unit of the Slovak Republic for literary-museal documentation, research, protection, promotion and presentation of Slovak national culture and education.

It is the central literary museum and gallery of book graphics in Slovakia. Based on the exploration and scientific research it collects, through scientific methods reviews, professionally processes and presents the collections of Slovak literature history, book culture and book graphics.

It builds collections of text files, visual, auditory and audiovisual character as well as art science documents, focusing on comprehensively document Slovak literature, its history, presentation and popularization.

It cooperates with the International Committee of ICOM - ICLM for literary museums and related institutes at home and abroad. Through exspositions and exhibitions the museum  presents litery funds in their own and foreign premises and hosts exibitions of other subjects.

The museum builds a central database of museal objects and documents related to Slovak literature from all over Slovakia and abroad, including commemorative plaques, heritage sites, radio and television shows of literary character.

It is as well involved in the administration of the National Cemetery with monuments gallery and personalities. It gathers information of immovable literary monuments placed in cemeteries all over Slovakia.

In the building of the museum is located permanent exhibition that presents the development of Slovak literature from 9 the 20th century century.

National Cemetery is a part of Slovak National Literary Museum, which is located in the center of Martin. In 1967 it was declared a national cultural monument. Slovak National Literary Museum  provides protection care of this object as a national monument and keeps records of graves, gravestones, grave sites.
