National Stud Topolčianky by its importance is one of the most famous European reprodcing and breeding centers of blooded thoroughbred horses. Stud was established in 1921. It focuses on breeding Arabian, Lipizzaner, hucul and sport horse.
As per facts mensioned above its uniqueness means that outside Topoľčianky there is no other place in Europe which would keep four breeds of horses. The herd counts 500 horses.
Part of the territory of the Stud is located in the Topoľčany Castle - the summer residence of the first president of Czechoslovakia TG Masaryk.
Also included is a horse museum with lots of interesting exhibits. On an area of more than 1000 ha are located breeding objects and breeding centers of the National Stud. They were gradually built during the 1921 - 1930s. Their layout and deployment may even today, after 80 years, serve as a model for a comprehensive solution of zootechnical, biological and social needs of the reproduction process in horse breeding.
Beyond Slovakia stud is best known for the classic school quadrille and the Lipizzaner stallions. The stallions attended an agricultural fair "Grune Woche" in Berlin, or magaquadrille entry into the Guinness Book of Records in Mannheim, Germany.
Horses from Topoľčianky are successful even in sporting arena and in a range of equestrian disciplines - dressage, vaulting, jumping, endurance riding, sledding.
In the National Stud you can as well witness sporting a breeding high-level events throughout the year.
Hippological exposition
T
he tradition of horse breeding in Slovakia is very diverse in all areas of life. In view of the continuing tradition of horse breeding for generations in the eighties National Stud gradually build up a unique hippologic exposure.
After the reconstruction of buildings and courtyards according to the plan a process of gathering of valuable historical artifacts from the horse breeding begun. It was built new toom for horse drawn vehicles exposition.
Hippological exhibition will provide visitors with a comprehensive idea about breeding horses and their use by society.
