Štrbské Pleso is most popular Tatra settlement and is also the highest situated. It is same-named as local tarn. It is possible to arrive here by car, cog railway, and Tatra tram. Štrbské Pleso is an important center of tourism and vacation. It is the starting point for tours to Furkotská Valley, Mountaind hut under Solisko peak, the waterfall Skok, but also to popular Kriváň, or Kôprovský štít and famous peak of Rysy – which is a pass to Poland. In winter there are very good skiing and cross country skiing possibilities over here.

Štrbské Pleso - the uppermost Tatras village, one of the classics holiday centers in Slovakia, in the vicinity of the same named and second largest tarn in High Tatras (20 hectare). Štrbské Pleso area has a rich history.
It was the ancient center of sports and tourism activities, as confirmed by local buildings - ski jumps, ski resort etc. It is an excellent base for recreational sports especially skiing, cross country skiing, active relaxation such as hiking, but also a wellness vacation in one of the hotels that were originally spa complex. You can choose from luxury hotels, tourist hostels, or simply give priority to affordable vacation in a camp in nearby Štrba.

Štrbské Pleso is an excellent starting base for lots of classics hikes in the High Tatras and is easily accessible over the network of Tatra trams and it is also accessible by car from Štrba, or from the direction Tatranská Lomnica. Car can be parked at the parking place near the tram station. Parking is paid during the season.

An example of beautiful trekking can be ascent to Kriváň, Rysy, Solisko, Popradské pleso tarn, or Kôprovský štít peak. All of them are very nice hikes, but it is advisable to start them early, since these routes are mostly heavy crowded. Especially a tour to Rysy, to whichs top leads a marked trail from the Polish side as well and it is also the highest point of Poland. If you start the ascent about seven o'clock in the morning, you will most likely avoid most tourists. Start climbing early in the morning is also much safer.

If you are looking lonelier, but no less beautiful peak, choose Kôprovský štít peak. If you need to refresh during a hike, or look for accomodation, try mountain hotel services near Popradské pleso tarn year-round and seasonal at the uppermost chalet of High Tatras in Chata pod Rysmi, that has been reconstructed recently. Recommended can be as well nice hike to the top of Solisko peak and Chata pod Soliskom chalet under its top, where you can also get by a chairlift.

Ascents on mentioned peaks are well marked and can be managed by the average tourist. It is extremely important to plan the hike properly. Rapid weather change is very common in the Tatras. To take an easy hike with children, select the Popradské pleso tarn, nearby Symbolic Cemetery, or the beautiful Skok waterfall. It is a very pleasant walk around the shore of Štrbské Pleso as well. Views of Kriváň, Rysy, Solisko, Vysoká and Patria belong among the most beautiful.

You can ski in the Štrbské pleso resort, or slopes stretching down from Solisko peak. Also, you can choose a wide range of cross-country skiing trails.

There is also the possibility of bungee jumping from the top of the ski jump platform, or the opportunity to experience the work of alpine carrier. Just when you come to the crossroads at Popradské pleso  select the appropriate load, which lies already prepared there to be carried to the mountain chalet under Rysy peak. You will fully recognize the price of tea that the chalet staff provides you as reward.

Štrbské Pleso offers plenty of options for a longer summer and winter holiday stays and shorter weekend visits in the mountains. Shorter walks, long challenging hikes, or cozy exploring of the mountains with the assistance of lifts - all of that is possible at Štrbské pleaso, which is easily accessible by tram or car. Every hike can be finished in one of the wellness hotels and well relaxed you can return home from Štrba by train, or by car via highway.
