Tatranská Lomnica is a popular tourist village in the High Tatras. It is the starting point for tours to the Skalnaté pleso tarn, where it is possible to be lifted by a cableway and further more to the peak of Lomnický štít. The cableway to Lomnický štít is unique technical work in High Tatras. It has only one cabin and from Skalnaté pleso tarn it overcomes the height difference 856 m on a 1870 m long rope. Cableway runs from 1940.  Lomnické sedlo pass is an option in the winter to ski back to the Tatranská Lomnica.

On Lomnický štít summint and Skalnaté pleso are located observatories and weather stations. Tatranská Lomnica is connected to the train station in Poprad by tram, but it is possible to arrive here by car. In Tatranská Lomnica is located administrative of High Tatras National Park - TANAP and Museum of TANAP.

From the neighboring village Tatranské Matliare hiking trails lead to the Zelené pleso tarn hut, which is located in a valley, surrounded by beautiful peaks like Jastrabia veža, or Malý Kežmarský štít with the famous north face - 900 meters high. Mentioned cottage is the starting point for further hikes, such as peak of the Jahňací štít and the by the red marked trail Svišťovka pass and Skalnaté pleso tarn can be reached.

Tatranská Lomnica is one of the most famous High Tatras settlements, and was founded in 1892. In connection with a holiday in Slovakia this is a fairly significant tourist and recreational center .

The village worked on the better quality of services offered which is indicated by renovated guest houses, hotels and the growing number of sports and relaxation related services such as skiing, golf, tennis courts, swimming pools, fitness centers and so on.

The most famous recreational facilities and significant architectural monuments include Hotel Lomnica built in 1893 and Grandhotel Praha built in 1905.

Tatranská Lomnica is one of the most significant starting points of many hikes in High Tatras. It lies on the main route of the tram from Poprad to Štrbské Pleso. Access is also possible by car down the road from Poprad or from other directions. You can park at the paid parking place during the season.

When planning your hiking holiday in High Tatras you can consider to use the cableway that runs up to the Skalnaté pleso tarn, and from there to the top of Lomnický štít peak, where you can enjoy hot coffee at the highest placed pub in Slovakia. This is also a good tip for a nice trip.

The cableway to the peak represents one cabin and we recommend to inquire about vacancies in advance. The cableway is really not cheap, but the view from the top of the mountain in good weather is worth it.

If you finish your hike from Tatranská Lomnica at Skalnaté pleso tarn, you can refresh in Skalnatá chata chalet, known as the cavern, according to its typical placement into a rock, or in a nearby restaurant, which also can be recognized by the masses of tourists. Views of Lomnický štít and Vidlový hrebeň ridge from this place is beautiful.

It is a very nice hike to continue direction to Veľká Svišťovka to the chalet at Zelené pleso tarn.

Ascent to Lomnický štíts top is possible with a mountain guide, or you can attempt climbing in the western and southwestern face, which provide many of the most beautiful Tatra climbing tours.

This is a gondola lift from Tatranská Lomnica (903 m) to Skalnaté pleso (1751 m). Lift overcomes the length of 3682 m elevation gain 869 m, which takes 12.5 minutes and has a capacity of 900 people per hour.
