Ždiar is located at the foot of the Belianske Tatry. This village was founded during the Wallachian colonization in the 16th century. In Ždiar is vividly present Goral folk tradition and folk architecture. This part of the Tatras has relatively limited opportunities for access to the mountains, as Belianske Tatry are closed to tourists except Monkova valley, which enables access to Zelene pleso tarn. Interesting views of the Tatras, however, offer hiking trails leading from here to Spišská Magura. Skiers can enjoy ski resort in Bachledová dolina and Strednica.
