Lomnický štít is with its 2634 meters the second highest peak in High Tatras and thank to its majestic appearance it was even considered the highest mountain in the whole Carpathians. During your holiday in Slovakia it is an excellent tip for a trip.

You can experience how huge is the mountain when you ascent on foot or by cableway to Skalnaté pleso tarn, or to the top of the mountain itself.
If you are lucky to have good view from the tarn, you will face the whole mass of the mountain right agains you. If you ascent to the top of the peak, or a cableway drives you, you will get a beautiful panoramatic view of almost whole High Tatras. During your visit in High Tatras this is a must see.

First confirmed ascent of Lomnický štít dates back to 18 century. It was made by Jakub Fábry. Today it is possible to ascent the top of this mountain with a mountain guide, most often through Lomnické sedlo pass , or by cableway. The ascent is suitable for experienced hikers but is not very difficult, however the orientation could be a problem. The normal route is checked by the Tatras rangers. Mountain guide you can easily find on the Internet. Be sure to check a review of the person who will lead you the summit. Both ways of the ascent are quite expensive, but it is still possible to attempt climbing the peak via one of the climbing routes, which is free, but requires the necessary knowledge and training. Lomnický štít offers a large number of traditional climbing routes with wonderful exposure such as Hokejka route in its western face.

Cableway allows you to get to the top of Lomnický štít directly from Tatranská Lomnica and has two sections. Tatranská Lomnica - Skalnaté pleso tarn and Skalnaté pleso tarn - Lomnický štít top. Cabin on the second section has a capacity of 15 people and the ride takes approx. 10 minustes. On top of the peak you can remain about half an hour. Ticket with seat reservation can be purchased 7 days in advance in Tatranská Lomnica cableway station, or via internet portal www.vt.sk. Tickets are bi-directional and often sell out very quickly. Cableway operates year-round, except of maintenance days and bad weather. If you decide to go only to Skalnaté pleso tarn, where the observatory is located, you can visit the nearby restaurant or Skalnatá Chata mountain chalet, called as well cavern.

In addition to hiking, you can enjoy the perfect skiing in Lomnické sedlo pass and ride up down to Tatranská Lomnica.

Accommodation on Lomnický štít peak, which is occupied by research teams of the local observatory on the top, is not possible. It is provided only in emergencies. Simple refreshments are served in café Dedo (old name of Lomnický štít was Dedo peak). Particular problem is the lack of drinking water, which needs to be delivered from Skalnaté pleso tarn.

Lomnický štít is suitable destination for the adventurous based ones, as well as for regular hikers. Visit of Lomnický štít peak while on holiday in the Tatras will definitely regret none of the both groups.
