If you are planning a vacation in High Tatras and looking for a target to mountain hiking, try to ascend Kôprovský štít. This 2,363 meter giant is unjustly neglected among other Tatra peaks, perhaps because most of the tourist choose Rysy peak, that is located in the vicinity.
Kôprovský štít is beautiful and its summit recalls an eagle's nest. Views from it can be classified among the most beautiful in the Tatras, and yet you will not find masses of tourists similar to those on Rysy here. The reason is that there is no mountain chalet located nearby like under Rysy peak and besides Rysy is Polands higest mountain.
Thus you can enjoy all the positives that provides stay in the mountains. Relax, beauty, wildlife and unforgettable view of the beautiful Hincovo pleaso tarn and Mengusovské peaks, towering over it. The hike to Kôprovský štít usually starts at Štrbské pleso tarn, which is a good starting point, as good reachable by transportation (car, train, bus).
From there leads a pleasant marked trail to Popradské pleaso tarn, where there is refreshment, relaxation and accommodation posiible on the famous mountain hotel Popradské pleaso. The hike continues along the trail to Rysy peak up to the crossroads where the sign to Kôprovský štít will direct you and gradually leads you to beautiful and huge Hincovo pleaso tarn.
Above the tarn you can admire a beautiful panorama of peaks. From Hincovo pleso tarn it is necessary to ascend to the Kôprovské sedlo pass and from there quite rapidly to the very top of Koprovský štít peak, from which under good weather conditions you will have gorgeous panoramic view of the Slovak and Polish side of the Tatras, that you can enjoy during whole ascent and forget all the fatique.
Kôprovský štít ascent can be considered a true mountain hike and it is therefore necessary to choose appropriate clothing and footwear when attemping it, as well as proper planning of the hike.
In the relative proximity of Kôprovský štít peak is located very popular Chata pod Rysmi chalet - the highest situated chalet in High Tatras, which can be a good tip for a trip during your holiday in the Tatra Mountains.
