Kriváň is a must to do during your vacation in High Tatras. This beautiful peak located in the west of High Tatras is known for its characteristic silhouette, unmistakable with  any other peak in Slovakia.

The ascent of 2,494 meter high Kriváň belongs to most popular hikes in Slovakia. Kriváň is often associated with patriotism and it is traditional symbol of our country. Mostly the ascents to its to start at Štrbské pleso tarn to where there is a good possibility to arrive by car, bus, or Tatra tram.

From Štrbské pleso the path continues via nice trails, in the direction Tri Studničky. At the crossroads before Tri Studničky, it is necessary to turn right to Kriváň, so better look for signs properly. Ascent is possible directly from Tri Studničky as well - a point - which is also accessible by car. Both ascent routes are nice, it is up to you to decide which you will take.

The ascent of Kriváň is quite nice, but requires adequate physical fitness, particularly final peak passages are physically demanding and when wet, there is high risk of slipping on its slabs. The hike, however, can be handled well by any average tourist.

On the way to the top of Kriváň, there are no chalets or food replenishment possibilities, which must be considered when planning the hike. We recommend to start the ascent early in the morning, due to the massive attack of mountaineers on this hill. It is very popular.

If you get to the top of Kriváň, the views from it will make you forget all the fatigue and make your holiday experience in High Tatras unforgettable.
