Košice was founded in the 13th century. This city is rich in historical monuments, which are concentrated in the Hlavné námestie square, which, together with the associated environment was declared a reservation. Monument of national importance is the Dóm of St. Elizabeth, situated in the middle of the square. It is the most important Gothic building in Slovakia. The tower of it serves as an observation deck. During the summer music program is performed near the Singing fountain, located between the Dóm of St. Elizabeth, Urban's Tower and Theatre of J. Borodáč. Additional valuable monuments include Forgach Palace, Rákoczi Palace, Csáky-Dessewffy Palace, Jakab Palace, Levoča house, the former Town Hall, Stoličný house, Franciscan, Dominican and Jesuit church with a monastery, Mikluš prison. In the city fortifications preserved Executioner's Bastion. Interesting attraction is Zoo in Kavečany and the dam Bukovec, a popular water sport destination. Train pulled by a steam locomotive is a nice attraction for families with children who decide to visit Čermeľské údolie valley. Attraction is also ALPINKA hut located in this valley.
